Part V
1989 RS Camaro
Here's another shot of the engine compartment, a bit washed out by the flash, but it provides you another look at the detail work that we are doing. Just about center of the cowl area at the top we will mount a remote starter button for doing tuning work on the engine and also in that area where the windshield wiper motor and assembly once lived, we will mount the ignition coil keeping it in the fresh air stream which will help to keep it cool.

This shows the area that I had originally pulled out with the dent puller, the metal was so worked that I was having a lot of trouble getting areas of it flat again. I finally decided to give up and just sectioned the bad metal out. There is a replacement panel already cut out and ready to be welded in. A bit of grinding and body filler will finish it up, and it probably saved me a couple of hours of hammer and dolly work that would not have produced results as good. To the left there, you might notice that there is no longer a rear end assembly.
That's because this 9 inch Ford rear from Moser Enterprises is taking it's place. The center section should arrive this week equipped with a spool and 5.30 gear set. We also have a disc brake kit coming that has to be installed on the rear. Our buddy Jack over at Beaverdam Auto Service very kindly pressed the new bearings on our axles, so we're just about ready to put this together and get it in the car. This rear is 3 inches narrower than the original stock one and will give us a bit of room to get those 10 inch slicks into place. The item sitting just behind the rear is an adjustable torque arm assembly from S&W Racecars. Nice part, just like everything else they sell. We are also using their aluminum dash assembly in the car.

And last for this week, the Vega steering box that has driven us to drink! If it weren't for the 60 or so pounds that it saved us, plus the additional room around the exhaust headers, I am not sure all of the work would have been worth it. But at this point, we're just a couple of welds from having it all finished.
Our latest work.....
