Part VI

1989 RS Camaro

Here's another view of the master cylinder installation and you might note that we also cleaned up and painted the tops of the strut assemblys. Once again just trying to detail the car as we go along. Our next job here is to plumb the brake lines into place for the front, running them through the linelock control that is mounted next to the master cylinder. Bendable brake tubing in 3/16" size will be used to do the entire car, although I am thinking about using a larger size for the rear brakes in an attempt to lessen the brake pressure going to the rear discs.

There were quite a few other items taken care of this week, the S&W dashboard was trimmed and it's mounting is ready to be installed. A number of extra holes in the the floorboard were either filled with weld or had sheetmetal trimmed and welded in place. We cut out the first pieces for the battery trays, removed some additional trim, headlights, parking lights. All of which will be replaced after the car is painted. The more items that we can get off of the car will result in a much nicer paint job in the end.

We're waiting on some parts to arrive, the center section that came for the rear was a mess and a new one is on it's way. We have gathered up most of the small engine parts that we need, with a few more on their way here and that will allow us to begin that assembly soon. We also have a transmission to build, the new Moser rear to install, race shocks to go in, a glass hood to mount and it's attending hood scoop. Door coverings need to be put together and some method of holding down the rear hatch has to be devised. Phil, for some reason said no to the idea of a bungy cord but I'm starting to run out of ideas. We also need to finish up the steering, but one hold up was the centerlink. After re-installing it with the attending new hardware we discovered that one of the joints on the centerlink was just too far gone to trust. Another one will replace it. We also have some battery cable to run, a fuel system to install and an entire wiring harness to engineer, build and install. Whew!!

One last shot here for this week, the car actually looks a bit rough right now, but she's coming along just fine and pretty soon, the sweet sound of a racing small block Chevy is going to fill the air.
